UPI Launches in Japan — Easier Payments for Indian Tourists

Indian travelers heading to Japan will soon experience the ease of paying through UPI, as the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) joins hands with NTT DATA Japan. This collaboration aims to bring India’s Unified Payments Interface (UPI) to Japan, providing Indian tourists with a secure, convenient, and familiar way to make transactions during their stay.

The partnership, established through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between NPCI International Payments Limited (NIPL) — the global arm of NPCI — and NTT DATA Japan, marks a pivotal step in expanding India’s digital payment ecosystem overseas. Once implemented, this integration will allow Indian visitors to enjoy seamless, instant payments in Japan, enhancing both convenience and their overall travel experience.
